I’m alive, alive, alive, hallelujah…
I have been a bad blogger this week…I apologize for the long pause between posts. I don’t guess I need to apologize…I think the posts are more for me than anybody. It has been a nice break, but I have missed the outlet, and the communication.
So after church last Sunday morning, I walked out into the lobby of the worship center. And the first thing I see is my son, along with a few people, staring up at a high spot on the wall. I walked little closer and looked for what they were looking at. Way above us was a banner – the banner that states the message for our church’s building campaign:
Lo and behold, there was a gooey pink object smack dab in the middle of the banner. It was one of those sticky, gooey, rubbery lizards…you know, the kind you get for 50 cents in the cheap toy machine at CiCi’s Pizza. And MY SON had flicked it up on the wall. There it was…hanging on to that proud and ambitious banner. A pink sticky thingy. And my son put it there.
Come on, kids, I thought to myself. Let’s get out of here before we draw attention to it.
Well, it wasn’t just the most horrible offense. But then it happened…the masses came to stare at…and gawk at…and ponder how to reach…my son’s lizard. My son ended up on a tall friend’s shoulder to try to reach the reptile…with an umbrella. But to no avail. The moment ended with our very pastor himself vaulting for the little critter with an umbrella…but without any luck. The (probably pretty pricey) banner was left with a few faint scratches from the overly-ambitious umbrella jumpers, but it wasn’t too bad.
So we all walked away, leaving the glowing pink creature hanging on to the banner. And that’s when it occurred to me. We should change the caption.
Change the world. One mission. One message. One lizard.
